Satire

Since World War II, news satire has become a pleasant filling for a void in American culture. Simply discussing the events while using a variety of sarcastic techniques is one form of satire that is gaining popularity, most likely as a result of the decline of censorship regulations. In contrast, making a claim in language that challenges the meanings of a sentence or a specific style of sentence that is more widely accepted or propagandized is frequently a key component in other forms of satire because doing so was a legal way to produce satire at times and in settings where speaking out becomes dangerous. Most of the time, these parodies also draw attention to the propaganda that the statement's original form thinly veils. The satirically rearranged versions of the remarks contain messages concerning actual persons, events, or trends and endeavor to create change. Satire news will occasionally present fictitious events that are either obviously the opposite of what actually happened or exaggerated interpretations of the truth. These fictitious incidents serve as part of an inside joke between the author and the audience since the irony can only be understood if the audience is at least vaguely aware of the truth and can, therefore, ascertain which features the false occurrences are addressing. Each type of satire in the news focuses on certain characteristics and seeks to influence change and societal improvement.

I have searched for and discovered one satire video and a satire article that both use comedy to convey information about Iran's present political situation.

I'll begin by talking about a video from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Trevor Noah primarily uses the type of satire I described earlier in this post. This is because the events are already so dramatic that it would be difficult to exaggerate them. The situation is so ludicrous that jokes practically create themselves; Noah only needs to speak them. The situation Noah discusses is in regards Iran fighting back for the death of General Soleimani by launching missiles towards American forces stationed in Iraq in the year 2020. The way that news outlets portrayed this event vs. the way it was discussed by Noah seems to differ, as I am sure Noah is trying to provide a light hearted version on the topic of Iran. Noah goes on to discuss how Fox News pundits still seem ready for conflict, also talking about the sanctions imposed during Trump's presidential era in reaction to Iran's strikes on said American military sites in Iraq. In my opinion I feel that the information that Noah has given in the past is flawed and offers little substantial information to the news. I think that his reporting is just for entertainment purposes and offers little insight on the reality of information, as it probably is only intended for entertainment.

The Onion has a parody article about Iran's current politics that I felt to be more current to current events. Concerns about nuclear Iran grew after a periodic table poster was discovered in a Tehran high school, according to the story. This short parody piece mocks the United States' nervousness while discussing nuclear weapons when it comes to Iran. The story depicts a classroom environment in Iran, specifically a chemistry classroom, and includes fabricated remarks from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the time. In my perspective, the essay was nicely handled; I thought that the article gave a correct idea of how people felt at the time of Iran, especially when talking about the nuclear arms deal.
